【和訳】The Killers - Wembley Song

ロッキン・オンの特集でロニーのインタビューが読めます。ウェンブリー公演に関する発言も少しだけあります。



2013年6月、バンドにとって10周年の記念年にイギリスのウェンブリースタジアムで行われた大規模公演。
ウェンブリーの歴史とこれまで演奏を行ってきたバンドに対して敬意を表すために書き下ろしたというこの曲。
歌詞の前半は小話を挟みながらのバンド名の羅列、後半はキラーズのこれまでの楽曲からマッシュアップ。
公演の様子はDVD化されるということでめちゃくちゃ楽しみです。

ジョージ・マイケルは2000年以降何度も自動車事故を起こしていて、公演の数週間前にも瀕死の大事故を起こしたことから。

66年のワールドカップでイングランド代表が全試合をウェンブリースタジアムで行い優勝したことから。

曲中のコール＆レスポンスはウェンブリー公演におけるフレディ・マーキュリーのそれに対するオマージュ。パフォーマンスの映像はロンドン五輪の閉会式でも使用された。

キラーズはアメリカよりも先にイギリスで売れた。あまりにもイギリス的な音楽をやる彼らがラスヴェガスの出身であると公表しても、しばらくの間は「シェフィールドかカムデン周辺の出身」という情報が公然と出回っていたことから。
